Martinez's Grand Slam Not Enough as Brazoban Blows Mets Lead

Huascar Brazoban fails to hold lead, Martinez's heroics wasted

Angels rally in the end for the win

With the bases loaded and the Mets down by two, J.D. Martinez was next up to bat. On a 2-0 pitch, the DH sent a 93 mph sinker 419 feet to center field for a grand slam. Martinez's slam gave the Mets their first runs of the game and seemed to be the knockout punch.

However, the Angels rallied in the bottom of the inning against Mets reliever Huascar Brazoban. After giving up a leadoff single to Mike Trout, Brazoban walked Shohei Ohtani and hit Jared Walsh to load the bases. Zach Neto then stepped up to the plate and hit a go-ahead home run to give the Angels a 5-4 lead.

The Mets were unable to score in the eighth or ninth innings, and the Angels held on for the win. Brazoban's outing was a disaster, and it cost the Mets the game. Martinez's heroics were wasted, and the Mets are now 1-2 on the season.
