Hamburger SV marked their return to the Bundesliga 2 in style with an impressive 2-0 victory over FC Schalke 04 in the opening match of Matchday 18. The match, played at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, saw HSV dominate proceedings and secure a well-deserved three points.
The visitors from Schalke 04 were on the back foot from the outset as HSV pressed high and created numerous chances. It was not until the second half, however, that HSV broke the deadlock. Striker Daniel Glatzel, making his first start for the club, fired home a powerful shot from the edge of the box in the 55th minute.
Schalke 04 pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages but were unable to find a way past the solid HSV defense. In the dying moments of the match, Glatzel sealed the victory for the home side with a clinical finish to make it 2-0.
The victory was a perfect start to the season for HSV, who will now look to continue their momentum in their upcoming matches. Schalke 04, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their performance but will have a chance to bounce back in their next fixture.
